Japan, City Administration to Rehabilitate Qoshe

The phase one rehabilitation project on the Qoshe dump site covering 1.5ha was completed with 2.1 million dollars of financing from Japan and the city administration. Out of a total of 30ha, the first phase of the rehabilitation was done with the support of the government of Japan through UN-HABITAT. Out of the total budget, 100,000 dollars was covered by the city administration. The rehabilitation project is aiming to establish environmental administration systems for Addis Abeba through the implementation of the Fukuoka Method of Solid Waste Management. The project is aimed at rehabilitating the collapsed area of the dump site in a bid to prevent further erosion, landslides in the surrounding settlements, methane explosions and to provide sustainable settlement.
