Ethiopian Women Envisage Menstrual Hygiene Products

Over five million women across the regional states foresee sanitary pad supply with a 146 million Br project. Launched by the French Development Agency (AFD), East African Gate (Eastgate) and Ethiopian Insitute of Textiles(EiTEX), the project is designed to establish a public-private dialogue to revitalise the private sector and local production of bio-degradable menstrual hygiene products. Last week, Remi Marechaux, ambassador of France and the African Union, and Alexandre Morel, country director of AFD, signed an agreement. Officials disclosed that 72pc of women lack the proper tools to take care of their menstrual hygiene. Awareness will be created through 'CARE Finance' and 'CARE Ethiopia' through the piloting and distribution to sampled regions with the assistance of the private sector.
