A 16-wheeler carries beyond-capacity scraps from a renovated construction site around the Vatican area. Transport regulations in Ethiopia have gone through multiple revisions due to the country averaging around 5,000 fatalities a year due to traffic accidents. The increasing number of vehicles currently at around 1.3 million in the country combined with poorly constructed roads and underregulated licenses cause traffic accidents. Around 78pc of all fatalities in car accidents are pedestrians with a third being male on Thursdays and Saturdays according to Bloomberg road safety initiative data from last year.
