Health professionals will have the adequate tools to train as more than 650 pieces of medical equipment including autoclaves, microscopes, intubation kits and resuscitation machines make their way. USAID through its Health Workforce Enhancement Program activity provided laboratory equipment worth 300,000 dollars to 28 medical and health sciences colleges. An estimated 40,000 students currently enrolled in several Health Sciences Education Programs nationwide will benefit from the learning equipment. It was handed over at an event held at Menelik II Health Science College in Addis Abeba last week in the attendance of Minister of Health, Lia Tadesse (MD), Director General for Higher Education Academic Affairs, Eba Mijena (MD), and USAID/Ethiopia's Health Office Director, Jonathan Ross. The event highlighted how existing students and staff have used lab equipment previously donated by USAID's Human Resources for Health Project. USAID representative said the long-term investment in Ethiopian health professionals will continue with USAID providing more than 1.8 billion dollars in development and humanitarian aid last year.
