Capital Inaugurates African CDC Headquarters

The headquarters of Africa Centres for Disease Control & Prevention CDC was inaugurated last week in Addis Abeba. The ceremony was held at the newly built headquarters located on Roosevelt Street (Old Airport) and saw the attendance of Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang and the Chairperson for the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat. The Foreign Minister indicated that landmark projects like the AU Conference Center, the Africa CDC headquarters, the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway and the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway are the areas where his country partners with the continent, stressing the full support of the African Continental Free Trade Area and the development strategies of African countries. According to Qin, China was the first to support the AU joining the G20 and remained Africa's largest trading partner for 13 years. Two-way trade in 2022 is expected to exceed 260 billion dollars. The Foreign Minister said fifty-two African countries and the AU Commission had signed Belt & Road documents with China. He said the 80 million dollars in military assistance had been initially implemented. The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, said the partnership focusing on health with China reflects depth relations with Africa.
