Officials of the Addis Abeba City Administration have suspended all land-related services beginning yesterday, January 9, 2023.
Kenia Yadeta (PhD), chief of the Addis Abeba Land Management Bureau, signed a circular dispatched to the 11 districts under the city administration, instructing them to comply.
City officials claim the suspension is enforced to combat illicit land occupation, and it remains unclear how long the latest round of suspension will last.
In August 2021, the City Administration suspended all land-related services claiming to battle extensive illicit construction activities before rescinding them four months later.
The partial and complete hiatus on land-related services over the last year has brought the City Administration over half a billion Birr in losses for service fees and capital gain taxes.
