Engineers, consultants, contractors, and industry representatives from African countries have descended to the capital, attending a three-day conference themed “Accelerating Sustainable Infrastructure Development in Africa Together.” Organisers say the conference focused on capacity building, filtering significant investments, improving infrastructure, and accelerating continental free trade zones and ICT. Country representatives from the energy, transport, water, and sanitation sectors have also presented their ongoing and completed projects. The African Engineering Week was officially launched last week with the presence of Sahle-Work Zewde, president of Ethiopia; Abraham Belay, minister of Defence; Ayisha Mohammed, minister of Irrigation & Lowland. Held at the newly inaugurated Science Museum in the capital, on Menelik Avenue, the eighth edition of Engineering Week and sixth Africa engineering conference was organised by the Ethiopian Association of Civil Engineers in partnership with the Federation of African Engineering Organisations, the World Federation of Engineering Organisations, and UNESCO.
