Coffee, Tea Exports Plummet

Ethiopia has earned 334 million dollars from the export of 103,108tn coffee in the first half of the current fiscal year. The revenue is 29pc short of the government’s plan for the fiscal year, according to the Ethiopian Coffee, Tea Development & Marketing Authority. Compared to last fiscal year, revenue generated from coffee export fell by 47.9 million dollars. Coffee is exported to Japan, Sudan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Germany, France and Italy. The country has also bagged five million dollars from the export of spices and 1.6 million dollars from tea exports, nearly half of its annual plan. Compared to last year’s performance, the volume of commodities exported and the revenue generated from both coffee and tea have shown a considerable decline.
