Candle Factory Goes Up in Blaze

An accidental fire fully engulfed and destroyed the Intema Candle Factory, found on the outskirts of Addis on the way to Burayu overnight on January 15, 2019. The fire which broke out around 3:00am also damaged two shops and one house, causing total damages of 11 million Br, according to Addis Abeba Fire, Emergency Prevention & Rescue Agency. The Agency deployed 80 firefighters from five branches and 13 fire trucks to control the fire. Goods estimated to be worth half a million Birr were destroyed from the shops, according to the Authority. One firefighter sustained a light injury in the process of containing the fire, but the team was able to save seven million Birr worth of property, according to Sileshi Tesfaye, public relations officer of the Agency. The cause of the fire has not been identified yet, according to him.
