Beverage, Food Exports Generate $83m

May 14 , 2022

The export of food and beverage items brought in 83 million dollars over the first three quarters of the financial year, according to the Ministry of Industry. The figure is four million dollars lower than the total revenues recorded last year. Beer accounts for a large proportion of the earnings. Habesha Breweries S.C., BGI Ethiopia, and Heineken are among the brewers that ship their products to overseas markets. Over half a dozen breweries have the capacity to produce 17.5 million hectolitres of beer annually, though their real output is closer to 10 million hectolitres. Heineken, BGI Ethiopia, and Dashen are the major players in the industry, accounting for two-thirds of annual production. BGI recently completed the acquisition of Meta Abo Brewery from Diageo.
