The Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has announced it is launching a network of in-country innovation hubs in Ethiopia. Established by the FAO and Ethiopia's agricultural institutions, the initiative is expected to support farmers and value chain actors. The network of in-country innovation hubs is a subprogramme of the Global Network of Digital Agriculture Innovation Hubs. It aims to accelerate the development of digital innovation in the agri-food sector and focuses especially on youth and women, seeking to increase their skills and competitiveness. Similar hubs will also be set up in Dominica, Grenada, and Morocco. Agriculture remains the pillar of the Ethiopian economy, accounting for over two-thirds of exports and 35pc of gross domestic product (GDP).
