Pandemic Casualties Hit All-Time High

Oct 2 , 2021

Nearly 150 people lost their lives to COVID-19 in a span of three days last week. The highest-ever death toll in a single day was recorded on September 28, 2021, as 49 people succumbed to the virus. Just under 1,000 people have died in September alone as the pandemic's third wave continues to wreak havoc. The alarming mortality rate and the sharp surge in cases is attributed to the delta variant, which the US Centres for Disease Control describes as being twice as deadly as previous strains. Over 5,600 deaths have been recorded by health authorities so far, a year and a half into the pandemic.
