Road Traffic Causalities Decline by a Fifth

The Addis Abeba Traffic Management Agency released a report last week detailing that 287 people have lost their lives from road accidents so far this fiscal year, an 18pc decrease from the figure recorded over the same period last year. Over 80pc of the casualties were pedestrians. Serious injuries from road accidents have also shown a fall to 1,352 from over 1,500 last year. According to the Federal Police Commission, the country reported a total of 20,672 road traffic accidents between July and December 2020, with Addis Abeba responsible for three-quarters of the total. These accidents also caused damages to properties worth more than 495.2 million Br.
