Italy has approved an emergency aid of 625,000 euros (around 31.5 million Br) to support health services provision in Tigray Regional State, where equipment in over half of the region's 205 health facilities is fully damaged or non-functional, according to an assessment by UNICEF. The Italian government has approved the funding for use by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to provide healthcare amidst the ongoing conflict in the northern region, a statement issued by the Italian Embassy disclosed. The Italian Development Cooperation and the Italian Red Cross delivered eight tonnes of medical equipment and medicine to Tigray through a humanitarian cargo flight that landed in Meqelle earlier this month. The latest intervention complements the humanitarian flight that transported medical items to Tigray last week, the statement said.
