South Korea continues to provide essential humanitarian aid to the affected population in the war-ravaged Tigray Regional State. Its embassy announced 700,000 dollars in humanitarian assistance and food aid last week delivered through the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Red Cross Commission (ICRC). In December last year, South Korea had donated 300,000 dollars through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as relief for the refugees in Sudan. Over 60,000 people from Tigray have fled to Sudan after the civil war broke out in November last year. Over two million people are displaced and have been staying in temporary shelters and schools. There are an estimated 21 million people in need of humanitarian aid in Ethiopia, the second-highest in the world, according to the International Rescue Committee (IRC). The ongoing military conflict has put Ethiopia in the top five countries on the Emergency Watchlist of the IRC for the first time.
