The European Union-funded Stemming Irregular Migration in Northern and Central Ethiopia (SINCE) Programme was rounded off earlier this week with a virtual event that saw the attendance of representatives from the EU, the Ethiopian Government, the Embassy of Italy and the private sector. The 20-million-euro Programme was initiated over three years ago with the aim of minimising irregular immigration from Ethiopia by establishing employment and economic opportunities for potential migrants, refugees and returnees through the creation of value chains in sectors such as agriculture, construction and textiles. The Programme worked on promoting job creation through supporting Public-Private Partnerships, TVET institutions, Small and Medium Enterprises and individuals. Local authorities have been advised to take full ownership of the created services in order to ensure that the public continues to benefit from them.
