UN Provides $36.6m to Conflict Victims

The United Nations (UN) has allocated 36.6 million dollars in response to the conflict in Tigray Regional State for the provision of water, sanitation and medical supplies, as well as the protection of civilians caught up in the conflict between the federal government and former regional government of Tigray. Thirteen million dollars of the funding was sourced from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and is allocated to people in Ethiopia. In comparison, the UN humanitarian chief released five million dollars for refugees newly arrived in Sudan. Over 50,000 Ethiopians, almost half of them children, have fled across the border into Sudan. An additional 12 million dollars has been released from the UN Humanitarian Fund in Ethiopia and 5.6 million dollars from the UN Sudan Fund. Precedence will be given to women, children and disabled people during the distribution of aid and supplies.
