AU, China Ink Deal to Build Africa CDC HQ

The African Union has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of China to build the first phase of the African Centre for Disease Control & Prevention (Africa CDC) headquarters in Addis Abeba. The virtual signing ceremony was done by Amira Elfadil, the African Union’s Commissioner for Social Affairs, and Qian Keming, China's minister of Commerce, which had agreed to provide financial support. The construction of the Africa CDC headquarters was part of the commitment from China, made at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit. The FOCAC Beijing Summit took place from September 3-4, 2018, in Beijing with the presence of representatives from 35 African countries.
