Six physical rehabilitation centres in Bahir Dar, Dessie and Assella have started the production of face shields with the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The centres, upon the request and approval of the Ministry of Health (MoH), will manufacture 3,000 face shields to combat the ongoing fight against the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The first batch of face shields will be delivered to the Ministry for trial and approval. Each of the rehab centres is expected to manufacture 500 face shields as a first batch and hand them over to the Ministry of Health for distribution to treatment hubs in the country. The centres are set to go into production upon approval of the samples. Centres located in Jigjiga, Arba Minch and Menagesha are expected to follow suit, according to Francois Friedel, physical rehabilitation programme manager with the ICRC. “The face shields can be reused and are easily cleaned with soap and water, or common household disinfectants,” said Francois.
