Project HOPE, a United States-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), has sent 56,000 N95 protective masks to Ethiopia to support the response to COVID-19. Dawit Abraham, Project HOPE's country representative, handed over the masks to Minister of Health Lia Tadesse (MD) last week. The personal protective equipment, which was secured through joint funding by the NGO’s corporate supporters and donations from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, will be distributed to health workers working in government health facilities. Project Hope, with its experience operating in China, including the Wuhan Province, plans to integrate the lessons gained from fighting the outbreak there to its different missions across the world, according to Dawit. Project Hope has been involved in health and humanitarian programmes globally for over 60 years and has Ethiopia as one of its priority countries in its global response to COVID-19. The NGO, in collaboration with Brown University, is also conducting virtual trainings for health workers. It has also been implementing USAID’s Community HIV Care & Treatment project.
