UNICEF delivered the first shipment of personal protective equipment to the Ministry of Health on Thursday, April 25, 2020. The protective equipment, costing a total of 1.5 million dollars, was handed over by UNICEF's country representative Adele Khodr to Lia Tadesse (MD), minister of Health. The protective equipment was funded by UNICEF and the UK's Department for International Development (DFID) and includes masks, face shields, goggles and cover gowns. The handover ceremony took place at the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Agency, which will be responsible for distributing the equipment to health centres located across the country. The items will be used by health workers in primary health services and for protection against the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). UNICEF had recently received 19 million pounds from the United Kingdom's government in support of its work to prevent the spread of the virus in Ethiopia and coordinate and respond to other humanitarian needs.
