Djibouti Lifts Cargo Handling Fee for Two Months

Apr 14 , 2020

Djibouti will temporarily lift terminal handling charges for export commodities from Ethiopia, Aboubaker O. Hadi, chairperson of Djibouti Ports & Free Zones Authority, announced today, April 16, 2020. The service charges will be lifted for two months.

"We hope the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea will be fully open to business with the world by then," reads a statement from the Authority.

Ethiopia mainly uses the Port of Djibouti to ferry 97pc of its import and export commodities.

"We encourage international shipping lines, inland transporters and eight forwarders to make a goodwill gesture," said Hadi. "Let's pull in the same direction."
