A blue Lada Taxi, an endangered transport variety in the capital, hauls a stack of sponges for the production line around the Qera area. The Addis Abeba Transport Bureau had launched an ambitious campaign to remove the Russian automobile from the city's roads. Prior efforts to mobilise the drivers of these relics into new taxi associations failed to materialise due to the financial limitations of importers and the lack of foreign currency. The growing adoption of taxi-hailing services by urbanites has also fueled the falling out of favour of the Lada's in recent years.

NBE Sets Four Percent Ceiling on Foreign Exchange Fees

The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) issued a new foreign exchange market directive on May 20, 2025, that caps commercial banks' forex service fees at a maximum of four percent.
