The Ministry of Education and India have held talks to implement an agreement that will provide PhD training for Ethiopian educators through Indian technology institutions. Under the deal, more than 1,200 university instructors are expected to receive advanced training over the next five years at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), known for their strength in engineering and technology. Eba Mijena (PhD), CEO for Academic Affairs, noted that only 18pc of the higher education teaching workforce currently holds doctoral qualifications. He said expanding PhD-level training in engineering and technology would support economic development and improve access to advanced technical expertise. Under the agreement, 252 university instructors will begin doctoral training in the first phase of the five-year programme starting this year.
