Crackdown on Non-Compliant Universities: 57 Sanctioned

The Federal Education & Training Authority has sanctioned 57 higher education institutions across 89 campuses for failing to meet regulatory standards. These institutions must reapply for accreditation within two to four years, depending on the severity of violations. Deputy Director General Beniam Ero said inspections revealed widespread non-compliance with licensing terms. Offences included forged academic certificates, admitting students below national cut-off scores, missing Competency (COC) exam results, and expired licences. “In a sample of 97 students from 567 enrolled before the decision, we found serious irregularities,” Beniam said. The disciplinary action is intended to uphold academic integrity and reinforce quality assurance. Programmes in suspended fields will remain closed until compliance is achieved. The Authority also reported that 92 institutions currently operate 36 campuses serving 729 students in the 2024/25 academic year.
