Jun 7 , 2020

The state-owned shipping giant, the Ethiopian Shipping & Logistics Services Enterprise has generated 19.4 billion Br in revenue during the last nine months of this fiscal year. The Enterprise, which is a major source of foreign currency, has shipped 12 million tonnes of goods, including oil, during the reporting period. This is in contrast to the 9.7 million tonnes of cargo it transported during the same time period last year, an increase of 37pc. However, the sector is one of the worst hit by the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) fallout and has shown a loss of revenue amounting to 75pc, according to Roba Megerssa, CEO of the Enterprise. Roba also explained that the health centres and isolation areas for drivers that have been exposed to COVID-19 are being facilitated at the borders. Providing the necessary measures to protect cross-country drivers from the virus and ensuring they get medical care is underway with the relevant authorities at Djibouti.
