With a 15pc average energy growth rate through the years, the ambition for regional energy integration with neighbouring countries Sudan, Kenya and Djibouti was indicated by officials at the Ministry of Water & Energy last week. Minister Habtamu Itefa (PhD) emphasised power generation capacity has remained on the rise, assuring ample potential and capacity, outlining abundant hydropower, solar and wind resources. He revealed that Kenya has requested to increase electricity exports, which had declined by half last year. Despite the increased attention to power exports from Ethiopia, nearly half of the population does not have access to electricity.
