Lawyers Association Inaugurates National Hotline

In collaboration with Ethio telecom, the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association launched a toll-free, national hotline for sexual and gender-based violence reports last week. The initiative cost 1.3 million Br and was supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Canada. The 7711 hotline was launched as part of the month-long commemoration of International Women's Day and is hoped to play a role in mitigating risks and incidences of sexual and gender-based violence against women and girls. Available in Amharic, Afaan Oromo and Tigrigna, it will provide support, information and counseling to survivors of gender-based violence.
