The government of Japan announced last week it would be granting 12.4 million dollars in emergency aid to provide humanitarian assistance in northern Ethiopia. The grant will be delivered through international aid agencies such as the World Food Programme (WFP), International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide relief items and food to people displaced by the fighting in the Amhara, Tigray and Afar regional states. The grant will also be used to fund explosive ordnance risk education for 10,000 people, according to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
