The German government has handed over 271,200 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to the Ministry of Health. The donation was made through the COVAX facility amid a surge in infections and deaths in the country. “These vaccines come at a critical time," said Lia Tadesse (MD), minister of Health. Millions of doses of the AstraZeneca, Sinopharm and Johnson & Johnson vaccines have been received by the Ministry so far. However, a little over 2.4 million people have been fully vaccinated in Ethiopia, representing around two percent of the population. That figure stands at 63pc in Germany. Over 330,000 cases have so far been recorded in Ethiopia, and nearly 5,100 people have lost their lives to the pandemic a year and a half in.
