
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has ordered defense forces to engage militarily with forces in Tigray Regional State after the latter allegedly took control of military assets of Northern Command stationed in the region.
The Prime Minister posted the alarming development on his Facebook page overnight, which he later reiterated in a televised address.
"The red line has been crossed," the Prime Minister told the nation in the deep hours of the night. "The use of force is the last resort to save the country and its people."
Leaders of the Tigray Regional State were not available for comment. Communications line are cut off and internet has been shutdown in the region.
