Ethiopian Electric Utility has availed a new mobile application that permits users to track their power usage for a year. The application allows for the reporting of technical difficulties through cell phones directly to a Utility district. Tesfaye Hirpa, information technology director at Utility, noted that this is part of the greater goal to improve customer satisfaction by adopting new technologies. He said EEU is working to further polish the application by incorporating additional features to allow payments and applications for installations. The application is developed by Nuri Flex Technologies, a South Korean-based company, that has been importing and installing digital electricity meters for manufacturing plants and distinguished customers of the EEU. With only half of the population having access to an electrical grid, the importance of integrating off-grid solutions like solar for power generation is indicated by energy experts.
