A gaping hole in the middle of Debre Zeit Road obstructs traffic flow as a drainage system's construction commences following the rainy season. Aside from the seven rivers that flow across the capital, increased water flow becomes particularly challenging during the season as an underdeveloped drainage system is pushed to its limits. Despite the capital receiving 236mm of rain in July and August, it had 76 flooding incidents, leading to damages of 20 million Br two years ago. The 5,000Km long drainage network covers less than half of the city's road mileage.
