Denmark Equips Electoral Board with $1.5m

Denmark has pledged a 1.5 million dollars in financial support to the upcoming sixth national election. An agreement was signed between Denmark and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support a multi-partner election support project for Ethiopia. Karin Poulsen, Denmark's ambassador to Ethiopia, and Turhan Saleh, the UNDP resident representative, signed the agreement. “The upcoming elections in Ethiopia are a crucial part of the country's stride toward a future of peace and prosperity,” said Saleh. Expecting to build the capacity of the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), the project will be implemented from 2019-2022. Among the ten development partners that have been contributing to Support Election for Ethiopia’s Democracy Strengthening (SEEDS) project, Denmark has contributed 40 million dollars.

National Bank Reports Five-Year Low Inflation, Record-High Exports

The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), in its six-month snapshot on monetary and external sector developments, reports that inflation has dropped to 15.5pc, the lowest in five years and a 13.9pc decline from last year's 29.4pc rate.
