The government confiscated 4.2 million Br worth of medical drugs smuggled into the county through Moyale, a town along the southern border of Ethiopia with Kenya. The Ethiopian Food & Drug Administration Authority has confiscated the medicine during a surprise raid on four pharmacies in the border town. The drugs were not registered by the Authority and were brought in an unsafe manner, which can compromise their quality and effectiveness, according to the statement from the Authority. Drugs, medical equipment and cosmetic products, valued at 27.7 million Br and deemed below the minimum standards, were also confiscated at checkpoints during inspections in the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
