The UN has expressed its concern that hundreds of trucks carrying aid to Tigray Regional State are not returning. "Only 38 out of 466 trucks that entered Tigray since 12 July have returned," said a tweet from the UN on September 16, 2021. Government officials say there are no trucks remaining to transport food and non-food aid items to the region. Over five million people are in need of emergency humanitarian assistance in Tigray, 400,000 of whom face the risk of famine.
