Sesame Overpowers Coffee Transactions

Sesame leapt above coffee transactions last month on the floor of the Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX), which transacted a total of 101,948tn of agricultural commodities worth more than 5.1 billion Br during the period. Sesame took the lion’s share by contributing 52,598tn, while coffee and white pea beans followed at 30,416tn and 8,565tn, respectively. Sesame transactions have shown an increase of 34pc in volume and 26pc in value compared to the same period last year. Compared to the preceding month, it has shown an increase of 76pc in volume and 85pc in value. The 52,598tn of sesame transacted in the reported period generated more than 2.2 billion Br. Out of this amount, 90pc of the volume and the value was generated from Humera. Similarly, coffee generated 2.5 billion Br from transaction volumes of 30,416tn. Out of this, coffee for the foreign market has registered 59pc in volume and 58pc in value followed by specialty coffee and coffee for local conception, respectively.

Goh Mortgage Bank reported gross profits of 83.4 million Br, a twelve-fold increase from last year's 6.4 million Br.
