New Hospital Breaks Ground for $300m

The Addis Abeba Silk Road General Hospital began giving service last week. Inaugurated by Amir Aman (MD), minister of Health, on November 5, 2019, the Hospital includes operating rooms, training centres, an outpatient department and emergency rooms. The Hospital was constructed for 300 million dollars and took 13 months to finalise. The Hospital was built in partnerships with Chinese investors and is dedicated to improving Chinese and Ethiopian relations under the Belt & Road Initiative. China is mostly involved in the construction industry of the country. There were 400 hospitals in operation as of September of this year. There were 52 hospitals in Addis Abeba as of 2014, 12 of which were state run. With just nine doctors for every 100,000 people, the country also has 16,765 nurses and 1,379 midwives. The number of health posts, health centres and hospitals increased by 16pc, 33pc and 108pc in the first half of this decade, according to the United Nation’s Children Fund (UNICEF). Ethiopia also recently received a hospital in Woliso, a town located 110Km from the capital, which was built for 120 million Br. It was the first public hospital for the town.

National Electricity Network Set for Upgrade

Ethiopia Electric Utility (EEU) plans to expand the national electricity grid by 8,689 km in the 2026 fiscal year, Yohannes Tonja, head of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, said.
