The Addis Abeba Abattoirs Enterprise (AAAE) has planned the slaughter of 6,000 animals for Easter. The slaughtering will take place at the city’s two main slaughterhouses, known as Kera and Akaki. The plan was announced in a joint statement issued last Tuesday, by the enterprise, the Addis Abeba Butchery Association, and the Addis Abeba City Farmers & Agricultural Development Commission. The authorities disclosed that 4,000 oxen and 2,500 sheep and goats are ready for slaughter. The enterprise have hired 260 temporary workers to assist during the holiday period. To facilitate meat distribution to butcher shops, they have prepared more than 40 trucks. Tsega Lemma, Deputy Commissioner of the Addis Abeba City Farmers & Agricultural Development Commission, said that the commission has completed its preparations for Easter. Tsega noted that the slaughtering equipment and meat distribution vehicles are clean and ready, ensuring hygiene and sanitation. He emphasized that the commission is committed to providing safe and healthy meat to the community and is actively overseeing illegal animal slaughter and trafficking. Ayele Sahile, Chairman of the Addis Abeba Butchery Association, disclosed that his association is working alongside the AAAE to supply the community with healthy meat. The chairman urged the public to ensure that the meat they purchase from butcher shops is sourced from the enterprise.
