Logistics professionals are gearing up to discuss industry developments and strengthen international ties, as Ethiopia hosts the 64th World Congress of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) after two years. The move is expected to benefit the logistics sector and broader economy, with 1,500 to 2,000 participants expected from around the world. The Congress has been held continuously for 61 years since its inception in Vienna. Ethiopia will become the third African country, following Egypt and South Africa, to host with the Ethiopian Freight Forwarders & Shipping Agents Association (EFFSAA) leading the initiative as a member of FIATA. According to Dawit Woubishet, president of the Association, their main objective is to improve the logistics space by focusing on advocating for the logistics sector, building capacity among its members, and facilitating networking opportunities. He noted that the conference will create business prospects for logistics providers, enabling local companies to partner with foreign organizations and leverage their knowledge and expertise. The conference is expected to attract foreign direct investment and create job opportunities through showcasing logistics capabilities, and strengthening trade relations, particularly within the African Free Trade Area. The influx of international participants is also foreseen to boost the tourism industry, contributing to the country's revenue. "It'll enable the country to adopt successful practices from those with advanced logistics industries," Dawit said.
