Capital Looks Forward to Usher Aviation Innovation Expo

The first Aviation Innovation Expo that aims to provide a networking platform and commercialise inventions while promoting aviation products and services is slated to open at the Ethiopian Science Museum after a month. With hopes of highlighting tech innovation across African countries, the Global Innovation Initiative Group (GIIG) partners with UNICEF Ethiopia to organise the Global Startup Awards Africa Summit where 15 winners that address critical global issues will be recognised. The expo is expected to exhibit products of 80 individuals and companies, competition with training and financing opportunities for the winners, and a one-day symposium that will have a research paper presentation and discussion. Organised by the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority and the Ministry of Transport & Logistics the event will take place from October 24-28, 2023. Getachew Mengiste, director of the Authority, said the aviation policy, which will pave the way for private investors to invest in the airport infrastructure and management, is in the final stage of ratification. The policy focuses on facilitating airports, air navigation and aeronautical metrology services with autonomous air transport management systems. He said that building aviation technology manufacturing, infrastructure and training skilled human resources for the sustainability of the aviation industry is pivotal. State Minister Denge Boru, called on professionals and innovators to make Ethiopia the Aviation Hub of Africa in 15 years by implementing the Next Generation Air Transport System.
