A 1.2 million euros worth of ventilators, diagnosis and laboratory equipment, and machinery was provided to the war-ridden areas of Amhara, Afar, and Tigray regional states last week. Minister of Health Lia Tadesse (MD) inked the deal with Stephan Auer, German Ambassador, at the Menschen für Menschen (MfM) Project Coordination Office with the German Development Corporation providing the supplies. Ethiopia's health sector is severely underdeveloped, with only 20,000 medical doctors and less than 400 public hospitals. Damage to health infrastructures and inadequate medical supplies due to the war has left many civilians stranded, and only three percent of the health facilities have been functional, according to a WHO report. Lia said the donation will help mitigate the shortage of medical supplies faced in the region while improving the quality of healthcare services provided to patients.
