A truck catches fire after ramming into a metal partition last week, around the Welo Sefer area on Africa Avenue (Bole Road). Traffic accidents are a common sight in the streets of the capital, where the country as whole registers around 5,000 fatalities yearly. A report by the Addis Abeba Transport Bureau recently revealed that 78pc of casualties recorded are pedestrians in accidents. The World Bank funded a 300 million dollar project labelled TRANSIP in 2016 to improve several aspects of the country's transport sector, where driving licenses are set to contain biometric data before the year ends.
