AddisRupt Expo Links Startups with Investors

Startups in agriculture, finance and medical technology gathered last week to showcase their innovations, business ideas, services, and products at a national expo. Hosted by Link-up Addis, AddisRupt Expo was hosted for the second time this year, exhibiting 41 startup companies at the Inter-Luxury Hotel event. Maryamawit Degfu, sales and marketing manager at LinkupAddis, sees the Expo as an opportunity to connect business start-ups with potential investors. The event was hosted for two days starting December 30, 2022. A subsidiary of Afromile Trading Plc, LinkUp Addis, founded in 2018 by Eyob Workneh, is a digital multimedia company based in Addis Abeba whose primary focus has been hosting events, entertainment, fashion and digital publishing and distribution, and online broadcasting. The event was organised in partnership with GIZ, Kazana Fund, Ice Addis, International Trade Center, Awaqi Ethiopia, Ministry of Labour & Skills, and The Creative Hub. Sophia Mulugeta, Project Manager of Afromile Trading Plc, said that AddisRupt: Reimagine would cause a substantial paradigm shift by shining a bright light on the thriving startup environment. Half a year ago,Link-up Addis hosted an expo comprising 20 startups. Over 2,000 visitors attended the event, where exhibitors shared their experiences as they were forced to look for alternatives in the face of the digital world. A panel discussion on navigating agriculture through technology was hosted with agri-tech Ethiopia.
