Hundreds of districts in seven regional states have been chosen for a project focusing on family planning and reproductive health literacy. Oromia, Amhara, Southern Nations, Sidama, Benishangul Gumuz, and Gambella are the regional states considered for the implementation. The 30 million dollar project dubbed "Healthy Behavioural Activity" came to light in partnership with USAID and Family Health International. The launch ceremony held at Sheraton Addis saw the attendance of Dereje Duguma (MD), state minister for Health, and Jonathan Ross, a representative for USAID. USAID has invested close to 10 billion dollars in the last six years, with 25pc accounting for the health sector. Ross encouraged the nationwide activities that contributed to making attitudinal changes in society while emphasising its insufficiency. He said the plan is to shift the social and gender norms that drive poor health outcomes beyond the 110 districts. It is expected to be completed in the next five years.
