First Batch of WHO Supplies Reach Meqelle

The World Health Organisation (WHO) dispatched the first batch of medicines, medical supplies and equipment to Tigray Regional State last week. The 10tn shipment arrived in Meqelle, capital of Tigray, aboard two United Nations Humanitarian Air Services (UNHAS) flights. It is the first round of 33.5tn of supplies and equipment the WHO plans to airlift into Tigray in the coming days. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) warns that assistance via air "is far from what is required to support the response in the region." It estimates that 9.4 million people are in need of emergency assistance in the country's northern regions, requiring 957 million dollars in funding, over a third of which remains outstanding.
