Coffee Export Earnings Near $600m

Export revenues from Ethiopia's most valuable trade commodity registered at 578 million dollars over the first half of the fiscal year. The figure is 274 million dollars higher than revenues recorded over the same period last year. Close to 148,000tn of coffee was shipped abroad over the six-month period, surpassing the 123,000tn target set by officials at the Coffee & Tea Authority. The half-year has also marked significant development on the side of buyers. China has emerged as one of the biggest buyer of Ethiopian coffee, with its imports rising by nearly 200pc to close in on Germany and Saudi Arabia at the top of the table. The Authority targets coffee export revenues of a little over one billion dollars this year.
