MSF Ceases Operations

Sep 10 , 2021

Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) has ceased the majority of its operations in Ethiopia following a three-month suspension order from the Agency for Civil Society Organisations. It has suspended all of its activities in the Amhara, Gambella and Somali regional states, as well as in the west and northwest of Tigray. The Agency had announced the suspension of work permits for three foreign humanitarian organisations, including the Norwegian Refugee Council and the Al-Maktoume Foundation, in late July 2021. It accused them of disseminating misinformation, employing foreign nationals without proper authorisation, importing unauthorised equipment and mismanaging funds. In the first half of 2021, MSF teams provided 212,000 adults and children with outpatient consultations, admitted 3,900 individuals for specialised care, and assisted 1,500 women in the delivery of their babies.
