Safaricom Introduces Senior Leadership

Safaricom has introduced the executive team assigned to lead its venture in the Ethiopian market. A delegation of seven, led by the company's CEO Peter Ndegwa and Safaricom Ethiopia's Managing Director Anwar Soussa, held discussions with senior government officials, including Ahmed Shide, minister of Finance, and Eyob Tekalign (PhD), state minister for Finance, last week, where they provided updates on the status of their operations. The Global Partnership for Ethiopia consortium led by the company targets to begin operations in the first half of 2022. It secured a license in May this year after offering 850 million dollars and plans to invest around 8.5 billion dollars over the coming decade. Already appointed, the company presented its committee of 11 executives in Ethiopia last week, all reporting to the Managing Director. All the executives, except one, are non-Ethiopians. Andarge Kabtimer is the only Ethiopian executive who will serve the telecom operator as a Chief Sales & Distribution Officer. Close to 40 job openings were also announced by the Operator.
