Hawassa Industrial Park Generates $38m

The Hawassa Industrial Park earned 38 million dollars in the last two years through exporting textile goods. The forex was earned from the production of 20 local and foreign firms in the industrial park. The park was built by China Civil Engineering Corporation in 2016, created job opportunities for 23,000 Ethiopians, who are also receiving practical skills training to enhance their capacities. “Ethiopia hopes to build and commission 30 industrial parks by 2025,” says Mekonnen Hailu, communication director of the Commission. “This is part of the effort to make this country a manufacturing hub and build a middle-income economy.” Three weeks ago, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) had inaugurated Jimma Industrial Park, which was built with the cost of 61 million dollars.
